Controversial homes to be considered

The North Las Vegas City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing and possibly vote Wednesday on a controversial zoning change requested by a city Planning Commission member who wants to build 33 homes in a rural preservation area.
The Planning Commission recommended against the proposed zoning changes last month.
Harry Shull, a developer and member of the Planning Commission, is a part owner of Celebrate Homes, which is proposing to build 33 single-family homes on 14.8 acres near the southeast corner of Lone Mountain Road and Allen Lane.
Many of those living near the spot have said they want the zoning left alone. Now, any residential development there is limited to two homes per acre, or roughly 30 homes. Also, the rural preservation designation means farm animals are allowed.
Shull has said he doesn't want farm animals to be allowed in his proposed development.
Some neighbors have also accused Shull of ethical transgressions for lobbying the other members of the Planning Commission for this project.
The Wednesday council meeting begins at 6 p.m. at North Las Vegas City Hall, 2200 Civic Center Drive.
