Letter: Fair criticism is not unpatriotic
Thursday, May 27, 2004 | 9:24 a.m.
The American people had better prepare themselves for a new round of McCarthyism, as evidenced in the vicious Republican attack on Rep. Nancy Pelosi for criticizing the president as incompetent.
Am I, too, unpatriotic when I say that our foreign policy is an unmitigated disaster?
Let me state bluntly that my brand of patriotism is far superior to that of the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld triumvirate, and I can prove it. As lackluster and undistinguished as was my tour of duty in the Korean War, it still outshone the laughable avoidance of wartime duty by our "distinguished" leaders.
Must we keep our mouths shut while New York and Washington burn?
