CARSON CITY -- An eighth applicant has been added to the list of those who want to replace Clark County District Judge Michael Douglas.
The state Commission on Judicial Selection said Wednesday that Las Vegas lawyer John Curtas, 52, in private law practice, will be considered along with the other seven applications.
The deadline for submitting applications was May 20.
The commission said the application of Curtas was sent by overnight courier in sufficient time to meet the deadline, though it arrived late because the courier failed to deliver on time.
The commission will interview the applicants June 28 and recommend three to Gov. Kenny Guinn, who will make the final selection. The one chosen will serve until the November election.
Others who submitted applications are Michael Davidson, Bruce Gale, Elizabeth Goff Gonzalez, Harry Peetris II, Charlane Bigelow Stead, Timothy Williams and Robert Kurth, Jr.
Curtas lost his 2002 race to unseat District Court Judge Donald Mosley, receiving just more than half of his opponents' vote tally. He also serves as a restaurant critic on public radio station KNPR.
