Letter: Bush, Israel stir Mideast caldron
Wednesday, May 26, 2004 | 8:49 a.m.
The sorry mess in the Mideast seems to worsen by the day. The Gaza massacre by Israel is not helpful and tends to fortify the fomenting hatred by the Arab world. Couple this with the prison abuse scandal and you find a serious fanning of the flames of hatred already at a fever pitch.
Israel has not been helpful in our war against terrorism, yet we still give them $3 billion of our tax dollars each and every year. There can be no peace in that region until Israel assists in permitting the Palestinians self-determination after 38 years of occupation by Israel.
Bush's unilateral invasion of the Iraqi people has further set back any peace in the region and represents the very first time in our 228-year history America has become an aggressor nation.
We are approaching a cost of more than $200 billion in Iraq, yet bin Laden still roams free. What do you suppose Osama is planning as you read this letter?
