Letter: Seniors need roads to explore
Tuesday, May 25, 2004 | 8:50 a.m.
I read with interest the May 17 letter from Pete Dronkers, who believes that our nation needs more roadless wilderness areas. I believe that we have too much of this already. I agree with him that these lands belong to us and to future generations. Our taxes have paid for the care and maintenance of these wild places for many years.
The problem I have is with organizations such as Friends of Nevada Wilderness that advocate closing roads in these public lands. I believe that I have a right to enjoy these places as much today as I did 50 years ago when I was a young man in robust health.
The organization Friends of Nevada Wilderness is not a friend of senior citizens, who no longer enjoy perfect health but still love our wild places. I will fight with my last breath any further road closures or any attempts by organizations to further restrict my access to our wilderness.
