Cops, firefighters set benefit event

The annual Policemen vs. Firemen Charity Golf Tournament will be held June 3 at Angel Park Golf Club. Proceeds support the University Medical Center Burn Center and the Police Athletic League of Southern Nevada.

Last year's tournament raised $7,000 for the groups.

The tournament begins at 7 a.m. with registration, and tee time following at 8 a.m. The event will feature several hole-in-one contests with prizes.

Cost is $125 per player, and registration is due by Friday. For more information or to register call Tom Boyce at 278-5884.

Memorial Day program planned

Paradise Memorial Gardens and Davis Paradise Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., will be holding a Memorial Day program at 9:30 a.m. Monday to honor veterans and loved ones.

Refreshments will be served before and after the event. Highlights will include Nellis Air Force Base honor guard and 21-gun salute, bagpipers, patriotic songs and a dove release.

Yoga event will help Shade Tree

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host a spring yoga celebration from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway, to benefit Shade Tree, a 24-hour emergency shelter for women and children in crisis situations.

Admission is free with a donation of household items (trash bags, paper cups, bowls, cleaners, dishes, etc.). Donations are tax deductible.

The event is designed to celebrate a sense of self through yoga and the community through leisure activity and helping those in need. Individuals of all ages and yoga levels can take part.

Poetry, jazz planned on Lewis Avenue

The Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services plans "Written in Stone -- Lewis Avenue Poetry Cafe Under the Stars," an evening of free poetry and jazz from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Lewis Avenue and Fourth Street.

The free event will include poetry, jazz performers, and food and drinks for sale.
