Three seniors routes added

Starting Monday, Las Vegas seniors will have three new bus routes to connect them to their favorite shopping centers, doctors' offices and pharmacies.

The Regional Transportation Commission at its Thursday meeting examined a plan to add three new routes to the Citizen Area Transit's Silver Star service in eastern Las Vegas, an expansion that RTC members say will afford local senior citizens greater access to transportation.

New buses on the route are initially slated to circulate through eastern Las Vegas on routes that will include stops at Boulder Station and Sam's Town.

The routes, which will operate Mondays and Thursdays starting May 24, will shuttle passengers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a report submitted to the RTC on Thursday.

It will cost riders 50 cents per trip and transport passengers to local grocery stores, doctors' offices and senior centers.

The additional routes, estimated to cost $106,080, were funded by the $2.7 billion Question 10 transportation package, approved by state lawmakers in 2002 and 2003.
