Rural Clark County water targeted

The board of the Southern Nevada Water Authority on Thursday approved a staff decision to seek 16,000 acre-feet of water from rural areas of northeast Clark County.

The authority has asked the Nevada State Engineer for the right to take the groundwater from the area north of Indian Springs. Pat Mulroy, water authority general manager, said the board must OK the request.

By 2050, the water authority, the region's water wholesaler, hopes to get 40 percent of its supply from groundwater sources in rural parts of Nevada.
