CARSON CITY -- Assemblyman John Marvel, R-Battle Mountain, the senior member of the Assembly, has escaped without any opposition in the primary election.
Glenda Mixer, a Republican, initially filed against Marvel because she did not like the way he switched votes to approve the $833 million tax increase in the 2003 Legislature. But Mixer later notified Secretary of State Dean Heller that she was withdrawing from the race.
Democrats Lonnie Feemster and Joan Morrow will battle it out in the primary election to challenge Marvel in the general election.
David Holmgren, who filed as an Independent American Party candidate for the Northern Nevada Senatorial District, has also withdrawn. It was disclosed he does not live in the district, represented by Sen. Dean Rhoads, R-Tuscarora.
Rhoads will face the politically named Thomas Jefferson, an Independent American Party candidate, in the general election.
