Poetry reading
The Cultural Affairs Division of the City of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services presents "Written in Stone -- Lewis Avenue Poetry Cafe Under the Stars," featuring George and Rachel McKibbens of Brooklyn, N.Y., from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday near the Poets' Bridge in the Lewis Avenue Corridor at Lewis Avenue and Fourth Street. Creole Heritage Day
The NSU Creole Heritage Center of Northwestern State University presents a "Creole Heritage Day" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road. Admission is $5, and activities include music and children's games. 822-1904 or 455-8161.
Festivities
To celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is holding the following events at libraries throughout the valley:
2 p.m. Saturday -- Fashion and Dance Show, featuring local groups and costumes from a variety of Asian and Pacific cultures, Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
7 p.m. Wednesday -- "Feng Shui Your House," featuring feng shui expert Peter Lung, Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.
4 p.m. Tuesday -- Origami workshop, Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd.
3 p.m. Tuesday -- Puppet show, Indian Springs Library, 715 Gretta Lane.
Acting classes
Clark County Parks & Community Services is offering free acting classes from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at Whitney Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave. Pre-registration is requested. 455-7576.

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District offers the following book discussion groups at area libraries this week:
