Hot rod show to help DARE
Hot Rod Grille will present its inaugural Drug Abuse Resistance Education Run to the Hill from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Sunday at 1231 American Pacific Drive, Henderson.
The event is a muscle car and street rod show combined with a garage sale and live and silent auction of sports memorabilia, all to benefit the Southern Nevada DARE program.
Advanced registration for the muscle car and street rod show is $35; $45 on the day of the event.

Down syndrome group schedules benefit golf
The Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada will hold its Invitational Golf Tournament beginning at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rhodes Ranch Golf Club, 20 Rhodes Ranch Parkway, to benefit the organization, which offers assistance exclusively to families affected by Down syndrome.
The event will be a four-person scramble, and an awards dinner party and raffle will immediately follow the tournament. Entries for the event close today.
Prizes will be awarded for shots that are closest to the hole, for the longest drive, and to anyone who shoots a hole-in-one.

Checkups offered at Quick Care celebration
University Medical Center's McCarran Quick Care, 1769 E. Russell Road, will celebrate its 10th anniversary from 8 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The public is invited to learn more about services offered at the various UMC Quick Care Centers and have their blood pressure checked. Additionally, representatives from the Clark County Health District will be providing information on Nevada Check Up, which provides low-cost health insurance to children.
Southwest Ambulance, the Clark County Fire Department, the Miles for Smiles van, the UMC Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Center, and various other organizations will be providing information and screenings for the public.

Open house planned at community college
Community College of Southern Nevada will hold its free open house, Celebrating the Family, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Cheyenne campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.
The open house will introduce several community leaders and CCSN's family to faculty, counselors and staff to prospective students and families. The event will be served with a free barbecue, entertainment and raffles.
There will also be live entertainment.

The Fit for Life Expo
will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane. The event offers introductory classes, line dancing, tai chi, yoga, water aerobics, nia and more. Experts will discuss exercise with medical challenges, health education, and personal training. There will also be special presentation during lunch. Admission is free and includes a box lunch. As part of a mobile home-safety tour,
the First Alert Home Safety Challenge will be on site at Home Depot from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at 2200 E. Serene Ave. and Sunday at 1275 W. Craig Road. The Home Safety Challenge is housed in a 32-foot truck that unfolds to display fun, hands-on activities for children and adults to help reduce deaths and injuries due to fire and carbon monoxide.
