Major elements of schools budget
Thursday, May 20, 2004 | 9:23 a.m.
Major elements of the $1.6 billion operating budget for the 2004-05 fiscal year approved by the Clark County School Board:
A projected enrollment increase of 4.56 percent to 280,606 students, which would move Clark County up one spot to the nation's fifth-largest school district.
An increase in per-pupil funding from the state to $4,199 from $4,077.
Increasing the district's contributions to employee health care costs to $8.4 million, as negotiated by the various bargaining groups.
More than $1 million to pay salaries for staff organizing 11 schools slated to open for the 2005-06 academic year.
Funding for 11 new positions in the energy conservation program at a cost of $560,710. District officials say the positions will pay for themselves within months through savings on utility bills.
Increasing the district's reserve funding for bus fuel, which is expected to continue rising significantly in price.
Adding a pilot program offering tuition-based full-day kindergarten classes at selected elementary schools.
