Negotiations with Las Vegas union continue

Teamsters workers at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Las Vegas didn't strike today as threatened in a dispute over health benefits, even after a 48-hour contract extension ended Tuesday night for the workers.

About 130 warehouse workers and truck drivers were set to walk off their jobs at the plant on North Mojave Road in Las Vegas, Gary Mauger, secretary-treasurer and chief executive of Teamsters Local 14, said Tuesday.

But workers said the strike didn't occur and that Mauger was in negotiations today.

Mauger said the main dispute between the company and the union is over health benefits.

Company spokesman Bob Phillips said Tuesday the company was optimistic that the dispute would be resolved.

"We really look forward to being able to reach a quick and positive resolution to the situation," Phillips said.
