James "Sam" Ballard
James "Sam" Ballard, 89, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local care center. He was born June 3, 1914, in Valentine, Neb. A resident for 30 years, he was a retired motel owner and a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; one son, Bruce Ballard of Grand Island, Neb.; one daughter, Merri Meissner of Broken Bow, Neb.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., handled arrangements.
Manuel Castellanos
Manuel Castellanos, 70, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. Born Dec. 24, 1933, he was a laborer.
He is survived two sons, Jose Manuel Castellanos of Yuma, Ariz., and Miguel Castellanos; one daughter, Elbira Elizabed Castellanos; three brothers, Ramon Castellanos, Alfonso Castellanos and Juan Castellanos; and five sisters, Clemencia Castellanos, Adela Castellanos, Carmen Castellanos, Teresa Castellanos and Rosa Castellanos.
Hites Funeral Home, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, handled arrangements.
Ernest Harold Clager Jr.
Ernest Harold Clager Jr., 73, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 26, 1930, in Pittsburgh. A resident for 21 years, he was a florist and Korean War Air Force veteran.
He is survived by one daughter, Karen Larson of Temecula, Calif.; one sister, Helen McDonald of Pittsburgh; and one grandchild.
Services are private. Nevada Funeral Service, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.
Derek Cooper Sr.
Derek Cooper Sr., 42, of Las Vegas died May 10 in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 3, 1961, in New Orleans, La. A resident for 19 years, he was a cook at Circus Circus.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette A.; three daughters, Nicole A. Thorpe of Morrilton, Ark., and Danielle Netters-Cooper and Jazmine K. Cooper, both of Las Vegas; two sons, Derek Cooper Jr. and Jered Cooper, both of Las Vegas; his father, Joseph Cooper Sr. of New Orleans; his mother, Lula Whitfield of Harvey, La.; five brothers, Joseph Cooper Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Barry Cooper Sr. of Newport News, Va., Kenneth Cooper of Las Vegas, Chanson Cooper of New Orleans and Emerson Whitfield III of Harvey, La.; two sisters, Rhonda Crockett of New Orleans and Kelly Cooper of New York City.
Thomas and Jones Funeral Home, 310 Foremaster Lane, is handling private arrangements.
Betty Duffield
Betty Duffield, 75, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 4, 1928, in Louisville, Ky. A resident for 14 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the American Bridge Congress.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Teur of Payson, Ariz., and Julie Townsend of Glendora, Calif.; two sons, Jim Duffield and Jeff Duffield, both of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
Gertrude S. Goldstein
Gertrude S. Goldstein, 59, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born July 26, 1944, in Boston. A resident for 28 years, she was a casino auditor.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan Buksa, and one son, Myer D. Goldstein, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Louis Davis, and one sister, Sandra Kilngsberg, both of Boston; and one grandchild.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.
Walter E. Hannah
Walter E. Hannah, 86, of North Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. Born March 29, 1918, in Massachusetts, he was a retired carpenter and World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by three sons, Walter Hannah of Nashua, N.H.; Fred Hannah of North Las Vegas; and Thomas Hannah; and one daughter, Nancy Snyder of Valley Center, Calif.
Services are pending. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.
Mary Jane Hertzel
Mary Jane Hertzel, 74, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. She was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Texas. A resident for 37 years, she was a retired schoolteacher.
She is survived by three daughters Patti Flores of Weslaco, Texas, Debbi Vaughan and Kathi Hertzel, both of Las Vegas; one son, Richard Hertzel of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.
Herman Hines Sr.
Herman Hines Sr., 84, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born July 2, 1919, in Warren, Ark. A resident for 60 years, he was a retired truck driver.
He is survived by three daughters, Shirley McCraney, Erlene Lasko and Patricia Jefferson, all of Las Vegas; five sons, Robert Hines of Red Bluff, Calif., and Herman Hines Jr, Kenneth Hines, Tony Hines and Kamau Bakari, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Leatrice Newton of Arkansas; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion United Methodist Church, 2108 N. Revere St., followed by burial in Palm Memorial Park.
Helen D. Martin
Helen D. Martin, 70, of Henderson died Saturday in Henderson. She was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Lambert, Miss. A resident for eight years, she was a retired clerk.
She is survived by her husband, Irvin N.; two daughters, Constance Roberts of Las Vegas and Pamela Gilliard of Chicago; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Palm Chapel, Eastern, followed by burial in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Georgia Virginia Murphy
Georgia Virginia Murphy, 81, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 23, 1923, in California. A resident for 19 years, she was a retired waitress.
She is survived by one daughter, Toni Monzo; one sister, Kay Adams; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bernadine Sue Nunn
Bernadine Sue Nunn, 84, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in North Las Vegas. She was born May 26, 1919, in Oklahoma. A resident for 50 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Jacobus of Nevada and Daniel Thompson of Vermont; one daughter, Myrna Buettner of California; two brothers, Willy Rowell of Georgia and Glen Rowell of Nevada; four sisters, Louise of Georgia, Lenora Henley of Oklahoma and Carol Durke and Mavis Hardey, both of Louisiana.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Garden Memorial Funeral Home, 3600 W. Vegas Drive, followed by a private burial.
Catherine E. "Kay" Palma
Catherine E. "Kay" Palma, 78, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. She was born April 23, 1926, in Los Angeles. A resident for 18 years, she was a retired cashier and a member of the Sierra Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Palma of Denver and Gloria Palma of Los Angeles; two sons, Gary Palma and Greg Palma of Henderson; and three grandchildren.

Lou Delle Querry
Lou Delle Querry, 94, of Las Vegas died May 9, in Mesa, Ariz. A resident for two years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Ina McKewen of Oregon and Bettye Beasley of Las Vegas; one son, William Querry Jr. of Seattle; one sister, Kay Johns of Sun City, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
No services are scheduled. Burial will be in Memory Gardens. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.
Marjorie E. Rojo
Marjorie E. Rojo, 69, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local care center. She was born March 16, 1935, in Farwell, Mich. A resident for 20 years, she was a retired cook.
She is survived by her husband, Vic; three daughters, Beverly Nelson, Brandee and Jamie, all of Las Vegas; and four sons, Dwayne Foss of Crystal Lake, Ill., Charles Foss of Clare, Mich., Marc and Ace, both of Las Vegas.

Della "Pete" Rosenberry
Della "Pete" Rosenberry, 92, of Henderson died Thursday in Henderson. She was born May 24, 1911, in Wyoming. A resident for 36 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Charles Rosenberry Jr. of Dillard, Ga., and Charles Stovel of Boise, Idaho; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were scheduled at noon today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
Tim G. Sanderson Sr.
Tim G. Sanderson Sr., 43, of Las Vegas died Friday. He was born Aug. 8, 1960 in Ponitoc, Miss. A resident for 21 years, he was a truck driver and Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Kim; and two sons, Tim Sanderson Jr. and Travis Sanderson, both of Las Vegas.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd.
Michael Scott
Michael Scott, 46, of Henderson died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born March 27, 1958, in Baltimore, Md. A resident for 10 years, he was an executive accountant for a mortgage company and a member of the Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Mullin-Scott; his mother and father, Lillian and Melvin Scott, and one brother, Melvin Scott Jr., all of Baltimore.
Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 6 p.m. services today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
