Man indicted in fatal crash
A 38-year-old man was indicted Friday on charges of running a red light and crashing into a bus stop, killing a man, while under the influence of alcohol on Christmas 2003.
John Olney was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol causing death, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and involuntary manslaughter for the crash that killed Bruce Kirton.
Witnesses told Metro Police that Olney, driving a 2001 Nissan Frontier, failed to stop at a red light at the corner of Flamingo Road and Valley View Boulevard and struck the left front side of a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Saul Mallqui. The Nissan jumped the curb and struck the bus stop where Kirton was waiting. Kirton was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Olney tried to leave the area after the accident but was stopped by passing motorists, police said.
Two teens found shot to death
Two Hispanic teenagers were found shot to death in a parked vehicle Friday afternoon near the 2400 block of East Sunrise Avenue, Metro Police said.
Juan Carlos Vasquez, 14, and Roberto Sanchez Jr., 17, both of Las Vegas were apparently shot while sitting in the vehicle, police said.
The victims both lived in the area, which is north of the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Fremont Street, police said.
Police said there was no obvious motive for the slayings.
Police are asking that anyone with information call them at 229-3521.
