Friday, May 14, 2004 | 11:06 a.m.
Smith's Food & Drug opened its first gas station in the Las Vegas area Tuesday, and its fourth in the state, at Ann Road and Decatur Boulevard in North Las Vegas. The 24-hour station is part of a new Smith's store, which also opened Tuesday. Smith's is offering discounted gas to grocery buyers for the next couple weeks, the company said. Smith's already operates gas stations in Elko, Pahrump and Dayton.
A Smith's spokeswoman said the company is looking to expand with stores and possibly gas stations in the Las Vegas area. By opening a gas station, Smith's joins other grocery and fuel retailers including Albertsons, Vons, Sam's Club and Costco Wholesale.
