Organization honors small businesses

The Small Business Administration announced its small business people of the year in Nevada and the Las Vegas area and will recognize them at an awards luncheon June 8.
William Houghton, owner of Horizon Business Systems in Las Vegas, was named Nevada's small business person of the year for 2004. He will compete against the other states' winners for the title of national small business person of the year next week in Orlando, Fla.
Other Las Vegas Valley small business owners chosen for their accomplishments as entrepreneurs:
Elizabeth Nozero, owner of Power Staffing Services Inc., small business person of the year for the city of Las Vegas
Leslie and Joan Dunn, president and vice president respectively of Ranch Property Development Inc., small business persons of the year for the city of Henderson
Alejandro Alvarez, owner of Don Alejandro's Texan Grill in Las Vegas, small business person of the year for the Latin Chamber of Commerce
Kimberly Flowers, president of Style Entertainment Inc. in Las Vegas, small business person of the year by the Urban Chamber of Commerce
Karen Gordon, president of Activity Planners Inc. in Las Vegas, small business person of the year by the International Women's Forum
Laura Stade, owner of All About You Bridal Galleria Inc. in Henderson, small business person of the year by the Nevada Small Business Development Center
Nellie Nelson, president of Cookies for Life in Henderson, small business person of the year by the Service Corps of Retired Executives
Salena Martin, owner of For Keeps Scrapbooking in Las Vegas, small business owner of the year by the Nevada Microenterprise Initiative
Irene Bustamante, director of diversity relations at MGM MIRAGE, small business advocate of the year for Southern Nevada.
