The arrival of warm weather is causing a gradual improvement in fishing with the better action still taking place in the Overton Arm.
Walt deMattos, NDOW creel census clerk, said boaters had good luck over the weekend in the Overton Arm for largemouth bass, striped bass and channel catfish. They were catching the fish at Stewart's Point, Fish Island and St. Thomas.
All of the boaters deMattos checked on Saturday at Overton Beach had stripers. A number of the fish weighed 2-5 pounds and were caught with Sassy Shad lures and jerk baits. A 3-pound largemouth bass was checked as well.
Anglers who have been fishing in the Boulder Basin have had success during the past week in the vicinity of Blackbird Point. The tires at Lake Mead Marina continue to produce stripers, although many of the fish are only 6-8 inches.
Willow Beach Hatchery is now raising trout after being closed for a refurbishment project. Its first rainbow trout plant will take place at Willow Beach on July 2 with 1,200 fish being stocked.
