Stupak in boxing promotion dispute
Thursday, May 13, 2004 | 10:37 a.m.
Just a few months after receiving a state license, a new boxing promotion company owned by former casino boss Bob Stupak is embroiled in a lawsuit.
Bob Stupak Presents LLC, which received a state license to promote boxing events in December, filed suit April 23 in Clark County District Court against Capital Promotions LC of Iowa over rights to fighter Tye Fields.
Capital Promotions, another boxing promoter, assigned its promotional rights with Fields to Bob Stupak Presents, the suit claims.
Stupak and officials for Capital Promotions, which is licensed in Iowa, could not be reached for comment.
Fields, a southpaw from Des Moines, Iowa, who goes by the name "Railroad," is a heavyweight who has won 30 of 31 fights. He is ranked 39th in the world, according to the boxing record Web site www.boxrec.com.
Stupak built the Vegas World hotel-casino, which is now the Stratosphere. He sold off the property as well as a collection of motels on Las Vegas Boulevard.
