Unity Festival set at Doolittle Center
The 12th annual Unity Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Doolittle Community Center, 1901 N. J St.
The festival will feature free children's activities and crafts; a slam dunk contest; a strong man competition; a three-point shoot-out; martial arts; dance performances by the Bomb Squad, Hip Hop Clowns, Victory Praise Dancers and other groups.
The Soul Brothers motorcycle club will display their bikes, and low rider car and truck owners will display show cars.
There will also be displays and information on community programs. Refreshments will be sold by the Alliance of Black Culinarians.
The event is designed to bring residents together to celebrate what makes the community great.

Mother of Year banquet Friday
The Mother of the Year banquet to honor Susan Leavitt, the 2004 Mother of the Year, and Young Mother Representative, Lori Klopfer, will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in Texas Station's Dallas Room.
The celebration will include a festive Hawaiian theme, entertainment and food. The banquet is open to the public who support the pledge of American Mothers Inc.
The purpose of the organization is to build the moral and spiritual foundations of home and family.

The Jewish Community Center
will present its Chocolate, Champaign and Blue Jeans Thank You Celebration, based on the children's story the Emperor's New Clothes, at 7 p.m. Sunday at its center, 8260 W. Charleston Blvd., Suite 3. The members of Sun City Anthem
will be selling their wares at the bi-annual Sun City Garage Sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Anthem Center parking lot, 2450 Hampton Road, Henderson. The event is open to the public and admission is free. Call 614-5864 for more information.
The Community College of Southern Nevada
will host a free community-wide science and technology fair from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at its Cheyenne campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Blvd. The fair will offer 50 open house displays, interactive exhibits, student experiments/demos, lab tours, business and industry speakers, music and entertainment, cultural food booths, and child care. Mojave Mental Health
Adult, Child and Family Services is celebrating Mental Health Month with its second annual Brunch of Blues, an Eggs Benefit for Mental Health from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at its headquarters, 4000 E. Charleston Blvd. Festivities include a free brunch, live music, a photography exhibit, mental health information, and T-shirts. Call 968-5000.
Southern Nevada Area Aglow
is hosting a women's retreat beginning at 5 p.m. Friday Sunday at the Mount Charleston Hotel. Preregistration is preferred, however, drop-ins are welcome. Preregistration for the banquet is required. To celebrate Asian Pacific American
Heritage month, the program Awesome Origami will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive. Learn how to create your own origami animals while learning about the ancient art and resources for further instruction. Call 633-1070.
