Community advice offered at park

Special Needs and Alternative Purchase Programs will hold its House Party in the Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Park, Mojave Road and Washington Avenue.

Residents will learn about community assistance and new loan products from the community's leading financial institutions, nonprofits and housing agencies.

The event will also feature games and prizes for children, demonstrations by the Metro Police Mounted Patrol and K-9 units. Also, skateboard park facilities will provide entertainment for families while adults talk to home-buying experts to learn about the available resources. Spanish-language interpreters will be available.

AIDS Candlelight Memorial planned

The 21st annual International AIDS Candlelight Memorial will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 S. Maryland Parkway.

The theme of the event, Turning Remembrance into Action, encourages participating communities to incorporate advocacy activities that extend beyond the official candlelight event.

Discussion will focus on the impact of HIV/AIDS in the community, along with issues such as prevention, care, treatment and education of the disease. Call 759-0726.
