SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- For the third consecutive game, a Sacramento pitcher shut down the Las Vegas 51s.
Joe Blanton was the latest, striking out eight in seven innings to help the River Cats to a 4-1 victory in front of 9,640 fans on Monday.
In succession, Mike Ziegler, Mike Wood and Blanton held the 51s to a combined four runs and 15 hits in 20 innings during the most recent three games.
Blanton, who entered the game with a 2.39 ERA and a 3-1 record, didn't get the run support he needed until late.
With the game tied 1-1, Sacramento scored three times in the eighth inning to secure the win.
Reliever Lou Pote picked up the win.
Las Vegas' starting pitcher Edwin Jackson did not allow a run in five innings of work. He allowed two hits, walked four and struck out four.
Chin-Feng Chen knocked in the 51s' only run with a first-inning single.
The 51s return home to take on the New Orleans Zephyrs as part of a four-game series beginning today at 7:10 p.m. at Cashman Field.
