Columnist Muriel Stevens: That special mother deserves a special meal

What's cooking on Mother's Day? For most mothers, it's the day to let someone else take the heat. So Mom, relax -- it's your day to choose the meal you like most. Here are some suggestions:

Breakfast at Bouchon: Chef Thomas Keller's recently opened Bouchon bistro in the Venezia Tower at The Venetian is now offering breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. daily.

Breakfast Bouchon-style is as good as it gets. Bouchon opened for dinner service in February and has already been acclaimed as "Best Restaurant in Las Vegas" by Millionaire Magazine.

The breakfast carte features a number of French-inspired items, including smoked Atlantic salmon on a petite baguette, coddled egg on toasted brioche and a quiche du jour. An awesome selection of well-loved morning pastries, including pain au chocolat, sweet and savory scones, pecan sticky buns and croissants, are created in Bouchon's bakery.

The sweet butter is made exclusively for Bouchon at Animal Farm in Vermont. A full complement of coffees and organic teas is available. House-made granola, yogurt parfaits and fresh seasonal fruits are offered along with sensational smoothies, freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices, as well as heady espresso martinis and other creative libations.

Dine in the main dining room or the outdoor patio. Dinner service is from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily; the oyster bar and cocktail lounge is open from 3 p.m. to midnight daily. For more info or reservations call 414-6200.

Champagne Brunch at Ritz-Carlton: Champagne brunch at the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas will be the grand finale for Bon Appetit Magazine's Wine & Spirits Focus that begins today with a Grand Tasting, featuring the award-winning cuisine of more than 30 of Las Vegas' notable chefs and restaurants.

Tickets are still available for the Grand Tasting, which takes place on the grounds of MonteLago Village behind the Ritz-Carlton. All of Saturday's private seminars and classes are sold out. Sunday's Mother's Day Brunch at Cafe Medici is booked, but cancellations are possible. Call 567-4700 and ask for the Bon Appetit registration desk.

The chefs participating in tonight's walk-around Grand Tasting from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. include Philippe Rispoli (Aureole), Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken (Border Grill), Charlie Palmer (Charlie Palmer Steak) and Gabino Sotelino (Mon Ami Gabi).

More Mother's Day at Lake Las Vegas: Casino MonteLago will offer a Mother's Day Brunch Buffet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $14.95 and a three-course dinner from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be many activities throughout MonteLago Village. For more, call the information line at 939-8888.

Mother's Day at Wolfgang Puck eateries: Puck restaurants will "treat mom like a celebrity." Spago and Chinois at the Forum Shops at Caesars, Postrio at the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian and Trattoria del Lupo at Mandalay Bay will offer a special Mother's Day dinner menu.

Postrio Executive Chef John LaGrone will feature "globally inspired fare"; Lupo Executive Chef Mark Ferguson will match Tuscan and Sicilian offerings; Chinois' Asian-fusion mix and sushi selection always delights. At Spago, award-winning Corporate Executive Chef and partner David Robins will present Mother's Day brunch items as well as dinner.

The brioche French toast with warm Vermont maple syrup and fresh berries is addictive, the house-made granola with assorted berries and vanilla yogurt parfait is deliciously healthy. A crisp potato galette with scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and caviar is an excellent choice.

Desserts at each restaurant are super, as are the chocolate-covered strawberries featured at Spago, Postrio and Lupo.
