Letter: Money is wasted on Medicare ads
Wednesday, May 5, 2004 | 10:03 a.m.
Now the Bush administration is prepared to spend another $18 million advertising its Medicare discount card for seniors, according to an Associated Press story. This puts the advertising budget for promoting the prescription card on track for passing the $80 million mark. This far outstrips a $58 million proposal by Bush's own FDA commissioner, which would create a safe system to import cheaper, FDA-approved prescriptions from abroad. The Bush administration should not be using taxpayer money that should go to pay for affordable prescription medicines to pay for what is nothing more than campaign advertisements.
