Best Places to Work are selected
The Southern Nevada Human Resource Association will present the Best Places to Work Awards from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Stardust's Conference Center.
Best Places to Work recognizes top Southern Nevada employers for innovative human resource practices and programs.
Over 80 companies were nominated as a Best Place to Work. Only six will win.
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman will be the keynote speaker.
Cost if $45 for members; $65 for nonmembers.

Girls Day Saturday at Lied facility
The Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas is preparing for its 23rd annual Girls Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lied Memorial Boys and Girls Club, 2850 S. Lindell Road.
The event pairs women in the valley with a girl between the age of 7 and 17 for an afternoon of entertainment by Culture Shock/Future Shock and the Doolittle Jam Squad.
The event will offer more than 15 games, face painting, prizes and a lunch donated by Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar.
Several guests, including Miss Teen Nevada, Miss Nevada, and the Air Force Thunderbird females will be present in addition to several community's mascots, including Summerlin Sam, Happy Home from KB Home and the Southern Nevada Water Authority's Deputy Drip.

Registration due for ACT test
The next ACT Assessment will be administered nationwide June 12. College-bound high school students must register for the college admissions exam by Friday, the deadline for having the registration postmarked. There is a late registration postmark deadline of May 21, but an extra fee ($15) is charged for late registrations.
ACT scores are accepted by virtually all U.S. colleges and universities, including all Ivy League schools, and are used by colleges along with high school grade point average and other information for admissions decisions and to help place students in appropriate-level courses.
The test fee is $26.
Students can register for the ACT by getting materials from their high school counselors or by registering online at ACT's Web site, www.act.org. The Web site also has helpful information, sample tests and the opportunity to order inexpensive test prep items.
Arthritis Walk scheduled Saturday
Silver State Bank is sponsoring the third annual Arthritis Walk set to begin with registration at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Paul McDermott Plaza on the campus University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The walk is 5K with a one-mile option to raise funds and awareness to fight arthritis, a disease affecting more than 400,000 Southern Nevadans.

Day of golf planned to help cystic fibrosis
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is holding its ninth annual Corporate Golf Classic Monday. The event will begin with a golf clinic with Wayne Player, son of PGA great Gary Player, at 8 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. at the Las Vegas Country Club, 3000 Joe W. Brown Drive.
The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to assure the development of the means to cure and control the disease and to improve the quality of life for those who suffer with its debilitating effects.

Bishop Gorman High School
will present its 10th annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at the Las Vegas Hilton. Taste delicate California Chardonnays paired with salmon, French rarities and crepes, tempura and sushi with sakes. Call 732-1945.
The 35th annual parliamentary seminar

The Muscular Dystrophy Association
will host its third annual seminar for Lou Gehrig's Disease from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at La Chareaux, 6985 W. Sahara Ave., to educate patients/families and the medical community about research and how to live with ALS. Dr. David Ginsburg, will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers include physical, occupational and respiratory therapists. Call 822-6945.
First Congregational Church,
