Letter: National sales tax would be fair
Monday, May 3, 2004 | 10:14 a.m.
That leaves the rest of us in the middle 50 percent also paying less than our fair share at 20 percent of the income tax. These numbers are rounded because they vary from one news source to another.
Even with those facts on the table, the liberals and socialists still believe that the "rich" should pay a larger share of the income tax. How long do they think the Golden Geese will keep laying those Golden Eggs? If the Democrats keep it up, the Golden Geese will eventually move to Belize, lock, stock and bankroll. Who will pay for the goodies and provide the jobs then?
We should apply our income tax logic to gasoline purchases. Just enter your annual income at the pump and you will be charged appropriately. If you are in the lower 40 percent, gasoline would cost 10 cents a gallon. If you are in the top 10 percent, gasoline would cost $40 a gallon.
Is it time to institute a national sales tax and eliminate the federal income tax? At least everyone, including drug dealers, illegal aliens, the underground economy, etc., would have to pay their fair share.
