Letter: Bush just doing his job when he planned for war
Monday, May 3, 2004 | 11:36 a.m.
Our military is charged with keeping America safe from any and all enemies. To do that they cannot be expected to wait until any attack on us before planning a counterattack or retribution. With that in mind, why would anyone, especially an American, want to fault our president or our military for preparedness? I certainly do hope that President Bush had a war plan on Iraq early in his administration. As it appears he did, then no one can say, "Our President failed to do his job!"
Too many uneducated writers (in international dealings) seek to discredit our president for being alert and on the job. Then, when something appears to have gone wrong (like Clinton's "no share intelligence wall") they are quick to say, "You should have had a plan in place." Well, President Bush had a plan in place and no amount of false statements will make any person interested in our national security think ill of him.
To the naysayers, I say get over it. Either support our president or use proper words of dissent. Do not fly around like Chicken Little screaming, "The sky is falling," when we need calmness and purposefulness of action.
