County recorder’s office reduces operating hours

The Clark County recorder's office will reduce daily operating hours for the walk-in public by one hour beginning today.
Formerly an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. operation, the office now will serve the walk-in public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Susan Wholbrandt, a representative of the office, said the change will allow the staff to process mail for an hour every morning. The office has struggled with the volume of documents, including property titles, for several years.
"That hour will make a huge difference," Wohlbrandt said.
County auditors and management and the district attorney's office last year criticized Recorder Fran Deane for favoring some customers over others in the office's procedures for recording walk-in customers before documents that were faxed or mailed in.
County code requires offices to provide public service from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., although "many of our offices are obviously open much longer," Assistance County Manager Rick Holmes said.
He noted that the staff would be present and working from 8 to 9 a.m., so the office hours are not being reduced.
