Sun All-Sate Basketball Boys’ Teams

Noteworthy: The heart and soul of the Foothill program, Smith carried the Falcons on his back all the way to the 4A state title game ... lightning-fast point guard whose energy and passion never waned ... averaged slightly more than 20 points per game to lead southern Nevada ... also averaged 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals per game ... first-team All-Sunrise Region choice ... scored 68 points in final two games of Sunrise Region playoffs .. attracting college interest from Fresno State and Northern Arizona.

Said Falcons coach Kevin Soares: "I think I have a legitimate argument for him being the best player in southern Nevada over the past season."

Noteworthy: Driven and determined, Schulte provided the biggest spark to help the Panthers win their first 4A state championship ... a starter from his first game at Palo Verde, Schulte developed from a hustling rebounder as a freshman into a more well-rounded threat this year ... voted Sunset Region MVP ... averaged 17.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.1 steals ... shot 54 percent from the field and 41 percent from 3-point range.

Said Panthers coach Phil Clarke: "He's driving the team and he's driving these young guys because if they don't work hard, they just won't be part of it. He'll run them out, I think. He's only a sophomore, I know, I know."

Noteworthy: Indians rode the heady and confident Klekas into the 4A state semifinals ...slick guard with a quick release, able to break down the defense for the mid-range jumper and spot up for the 3-pointer ... averaged 18 points and 8 assists ... first-team All-Northern Region selection and co-MVP of the High Desert Division along with Reed's Robert Vega ... scored 29 of Elko's 52 points in semifinal loss to Palo Verde.

Said Indians coach Chris Klekas: "He made our team, really. He elevated everyone's play. Good players make players around them better, and that's what he did."

Noteworthy: A physical specimen, Perry possesses all the tools on the court to become a strong college basketball player ... spent plenty of time at point guard this year in preparation for that transition at the next level ... averaged 16.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game ... also served as the primary defensive stopper for the Desert Shields ... helped Cheyenne advance to Sunset Region semifinals.

Said Desert Shields coach Larry Johnson: "He basically made everybody on the floor better. He was very unselfish, definitely a team basketball player. He had a good work ethic and a good attitude."

Noteworthy: A unique combination of strength and speed, McTyer presented an impossible matchup challenge for the Blazers ... averaged 12.4 points and 7.2 assists per game ... stands just 5-foot-11, but still averaged 8.6 rebounds per game as well ... first-team All-Sunset Region selection ... led the Blazers to the Southwest Division title and the Sunset championship game ... signed to play college basketball at Florida Atlantic.

Said Blazers coach Al LaRocque: "He's a hole that can't be replaced. It would be easier to replace me than him. He bangs it every day."

Noteworthy: After building the Foothill program, Soares guided the Falcons to their finest season ... Foothill's 27-7 record is the best mark in school history ... the Falcons' trip to the state championship game is the first-ever for a Henderson school in basketball ... Sunrise Region championship is also the first in school history in any sport for Foothill.
