Help available with sewer bills
Las Vegas has a new program to help needy people pay their sewer bills, which were increased by the City Council on Nov. 19. The ordinance that approved the increase includes a provision "for owner-occupants of single-family dwellings to apply for a waiver of the rate increase by means of a hardship determination," according to a city news release.
Residents who make $19,800 or less, or households of two or more making less than $22,600, are eligible for the assistance. People who believe they qualify can apply at Las Vegas City Hall, Department of Finance and Business Services, Sixth Floor, 400 Stewart Ave. Residents can also have a form mailed to them by calling 229-6281. Waivers are granted for one year, and must be renewed annually.
Moncrief schedules series of meetings
Las Vegas Councilwoman Janet Moncrief will conduct neighborhood meetings in April.
The times and places of the meetings are: 6 p.m., April 5, in the main conference room of the Las Vegas Valley Water District, 1001 S. Valley View Boulevard; 6 p.m., April 14, in the multi-purpose room at Easter Seals of Nevada , 6200 W. Oakey Boulevard; and 6 p.m., April 15,in the multi-purpose room at Rex Bell Elementary School, 2900 Wilmington Way.
West Las Vegas plan to be studied
Las Vegas city officials are hoping plenty of residents turn out for a third community meeting about the West Las Vegas Plan Update.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. (east of J Street), in the dance studio. The meeting is co-hosted by the city Planning and Development and the Neighborhood Services departments.
During the meeting, city staff members will discuss the priority list for the West Las Vegas Plan and the West Las Vegas Plan preliminary draft. The staff also will discuss making minor revisions to the Pioneer Trail, a proposed recreation trail that would pass through 30 sites and show the historical progress of settlement in the Las Vegas Valley.
For more information on the West Las Vegas Plan Update, residents can contact project planner Laura Martin at 229-6022.
