Growth panel to convene for first time
Monday, March 29, 2004 | 9:48 a.m.
Clark County's new Growth Task Force will meet for the first time Tuesday.
Modeled after county committees that brought together citizens to study finance issues with the regional health care system or ethical issues in government, the Growth Task Force was created last month to study Southern Nevada's rapid growth -- and potentially propose policies to blunt the negative impacts of that growth.
Commissioners Rory Reid, Bruce Woodbury and Mark James initiated the task force. Reid is scheduled to open Tuesday's meeting of the 17-person committee. Reid said the resignation of James, effective April 2, is not likely to affect the work of the task force.
"I'll miss Mark," Reid said. "He believed strongly that we had to ensure that our growth policies were wise. But we've established a framework where the work can proceed, and I think it's bigger than any one individual."
He said his remarks to the task force will try to set that framework for the panel's discussions.
The public meeting is scheduled for noon at the Winchester Community Center, 3130 McLeod Drive.
