Fishing report: Fishing on rise at Overton Arm

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

The better fishing appears to be coming from the Overton Arm where boaters have been having fair success for largemouth and striped bass, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).

On Saturday, NDOW creel census clerks saw several largemouth bass that boaters had caught near Fish Island. The fish ranged 1 1/2-2 pounds and were taken with divers and poppers.

Small numbers of stripers were also checked Saturday at Overton Beach. Boaters have been downrigging and fishing deep with anchovies to catch the fish. Most of the fish weighed less than 2 pounds.

Stripers that weigh under a pound are being caught with anchovies by boaters who have been fishing near the islands around Echo Bay.

Fishing has been slow in the Boulder Basin with boaters only having sporadic luck for stripers around Sand Island and Black Island. Boaters have reported to NDOW that they have had no luck around Hemenway Harbor.

Striped bass fishing has been slow throughout the lake with only a few small fish being caught around Cottonwood Cove.

After over two years of extensive habitat restoration work, Adams McGill Reservoir is one foot from being full and ready to fish. The reservoir is scheduled to be stocked with rainbow trout within the next two weeks.

Daytime temperatures have reached the low 80s while the mornings are still chilly in the low 30s.
