NLV Police seek suspect in slaying
Thursday, March 25, 2004 | 11:15 a.m.
Police this morning were searching for a 24-year-old man they believe killed another man at the Cheyenne Villas apartments in North Las Vegas on Wednesday night.
Police said they were called to a complex at 3301 Civic Center Blvd., just north of Cheyenne Avenue, by residents who had heard a gunshot. Officers found a dead man in one of the apartments about 10:20 p.m.
At about 4 a.m. today, police learned that a suspect in the homicide might be at the Sun Garden Apartments, 2928 N. Pecos Road, near North Las Vegas Boulevard, Officer Tim Bedwell said.
Police served a search warrant at one of the apartments about 8:45 a.m. and had the department's special weapons and tactics unit stand by because they feared a standoff with the suspect, whom police believe is armed and dangerous.
Residents were evacuated from the area about 8 a.m. but were allowed back in their apartments by 9:45 a.m. after police determined that the suspect was not in the apartment complex, Bedwell said.
Bedwell said police have probable cause to arrest the suspect on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.
More information about the homicide victim and the circumstances surrounding the slaying were not available this morning.
