Five Nevada high school students have been selected state finalists in the AAA Travel High School Challenge.
They will match travel knowledge and geography wits, with the top scorer winning a $1,000 scholarship and a trip to Orlando, Fla., to compete for more than $100,000 in scholarships in the national finals.
The finalists will take a 40-question written, proctored exam testing their knowledge of U.S. and world geography, with an emphasis on travel and tourist destinations.
The finalists are Anne Catherine Delos-Reyes of Churchill County High School in Fallon, Jessalyn Hill of Galena High School in Reno; Justin Ponkow of Green Valley High School in Henderson; Devaraj Ramsamy of Silverado High School; and Daniel St. John of Incline High School in Incline Village.
The state champion and a chaperone will receive an expense-paid trip to Florida to compete April 24-27 with a written exam, followed by a series of round-robin, game show-style playoffs.
