Company posts a loss

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Interstate Bakeries Corp., the maker of Wonder bread and Hostess Twinkies and operator of a bakery in Henderson, today said it had a third-quarter loss of as much as 12 cents a share because of declining sales. The company's shares fell as much as 14 percent.
Interstate Bakeries had been expected to have profit of 13 cents a share, according to the average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial. Sales in the quarter ended March 6 declined about 2.5 percent from a year earlier, the Kansas City-based company said.
Final results will be released April 15, the company said.
