Citizens of Distinction will be honored

Three Nevada women will be honored as Citizens of Distinction along with 36 others at the fifth annual Citizens of Distinction Luncheon on Thursday at the Stardust.

Florence McClure will be honored for her pioneering advocacy on behalf of victims of rape and incarcerated women.

Veteran government official Myla Florence, director of Nevada's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, will also be honored at the event.

The program is sponsored by the Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow, a nonprofit corporation that provides underemployed and unemployed Nevadans with education to move them into skilled, higher-paying employment.

Sherrie Coverdell, a former foundation client, will also join the list of Citizens of Distinction.

Coverdell is considered the group's first "full circle" client, according to Chairwoman Janet Blumen.

After Coverdell was let go from her 13-year job, the foundation provided the education needed for Coverdell to be placed in a job with Metro Police.
