Riviera rooms evacuated for fire in AC
Monday, March 22, 2004 | 10:51 a.m.
Clark County firefighters extinguished a small fire in a malfunctioning air-conditioning unit at the Riviera shortly after 8 a.m. today.
Some hotel guests on the first through sixth floors were evacuated, but firefighters stopped the evacuations when they determined guests were not in danger, Clark County Fire Department spokesman Bob Leinbach said.
The fire department was called when light smoke appeared on the second floor about 8 a.m. in the Mardi Gras showroom area, he said. Firefighters discovered a fire in an air-conditioning unit above the second-floor ceiling.
The fire was confined to that area and did not spread at the hotel on the Strip, Leinbach said.
