Sign-ups start for county’s camps
Friday, March 19, 2004 | 9:11 a.m.
Registration begins today for the three six-day, overnight, summer resident camps at Camp Lee Canyon at Mount Charleston.
The camps, sponsored by Clark County Parks and Community Services, offer special classes in science, the arts, and outdoor recreation in a cool and picturesque mountain setting. The staff provides an interactive learning experience along with traditional camping activities such as hikes, games, skits, and campfires.
The On the Edge Camp for teens ages 13-15 will be held June 27 through July 2; An Adventure in Science, for ages 8-12, runs July 11 through 16; and the Arts Camp, also for ages 8-12, runs July 18 through 23.
All three camps have a registered nurse in residence. Other camp staff includes two counselors assigned to each cabin group of sixteen campers; an on-site camp director and camp coordinator. The faculty for the Arts and Science Camps are all professional educators with a wide variety of training and teaching experience. A professional catering company provides meals.
The registration fee is $300 for the Art and Science Camps and $350 for the Teen Camp. This includes room and board, all supplies and a camp T-shirt. Parents must provide transportation to and from the camp (located approximately 45-miles northwest of Las Vegas). Campers are asked to bring bedding and suitable clothing.
