Passenger traffic hits 3 million in February

Capitalizing on an extra day in the month for Leap Year, McCarran International Airport passenger traffic was up 13.3 percent over the same month a year ago to 3 million people in February, Clark County aviation officials announced Thursday.
By comparing daily averages, McCarran traffic would have been up 9.4 percent, with an average of 105,877 passengers a day in February compared with an average of 96,798 passengers a day for the same month a year.
America West Airlines, the No. 2 commercial passenger carrier at McCarran, paced the increase with 498,538 customers for the month, a 20.1 percent increase over the same period a year ago. America West added a net of 12 new flights to Las Vegas since February 2003.
Southwest Airlines, the busiest McCarran carrier, had a 6.5 percent increase in passengers to 961,760, while Delta Air Lines was the only airline among the top five at McCarran to show a decrease -- 1.6 percent to 204,429 passengers.
Based on McCarran statistics, 76.6 percent of the seats coming into the Las Vegas market in February had passengers.
