Letter: O’Callaghan will be missed

We would like to express some of our thoughts on the recent passings of Ruthe Deskin and Gov. Mike.
We never met Ruthe, yet somehow after reading her columns we felt like we knew her. Her ideals, and principles about life, were good, wholesome family values.
A word or two about Gov. Mike -- we used to see him at Poppa Gar's restaurant having breakfast. A warm smile, a friendly "hello," and a handshake for anyone.
Poppa Gar's was a good place to eat and congregate. Poppa himself was an excellent cook and host.
Former Sheriff Ralph Lamb, former District Attorney Rex Bell, Sen. Richard Bryan, Sig Rogich, Billy Vasilliadas and Kenny Rogers were also some of the clientele. Everybody knew when Gov. Mike walked in -- he was immediately greeted by Poppa Gar and customers.
Poppa Gar is gone now, and sad to say so is Poppa's lovely wife, Alma.
We treasure having known Gov. Mike, albeit casually. His spirit will live on through those people who knew him well and loved him dearly, and also through those people who may not have met him but know of what he did for others.
We will miss you, Gov. Mike. God be with you.
