Letter: Recess is more than just ‘luxury’
Wednesday, March 17, 2004 | 8:44 a.m.
Once again the editorial staff of the Sun has proven itself to be a friend of area children. The March 10 editorial in support of recess was right on the money.
In the name of increased "standards," national and regional officials are all too ready to take the child out of childhood. Recess and play are essential for the healthy development of a child's mind, body and spirit.
I found Deputy Superintendent Agustin Orci's quote that "recess has become a luxury we can't afford," very interesting. Respectfully, what we can't afford is to give selective Clark County School District officials a 10 percent raise.
