Letter: Zoo won’t work in desert heat
Monday, March 15, 2004 | 8:53 a.m.
Las Vegas needs a zoo like a bicycle needs a fish! Who in their right mind would allow lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants, seals, monkeys and an ark full of other animals in the scorching heat of Southern Nevada?
We have two people willing to put up $2 million for exclusive "negotiating rights" (whatever that means) for two years with the city of Las Vegas to get this zoo.
How many other people have a proposal for a zoo? And this, according to them, will not be a tourist attraction, but for the locals. Unless they have a tic-tac-toe-playing chicken, who will go there a second time?
The "negotiations" are going on in the winter months. Try these same proposals in July and August!
I suggest if Las Vegas wants a zoo, just open up the 10th floor of City Hall!
