Letter: No excuses for high gas prices

Regarding the high gas prices: What do the corporate bigwigs do with the profits?

There has not been one new refinery built in almost 30 years. We get the excuse of reformulations for the summer months, temporary shutdowns for maintenance and shortages of crude. Hogwash! Here in Nevada we are close to the California refineries, and yet the prices are sky high.

Maybe President Bush was right to push for drilling in Alaska. We "need" our own pipeline and reserves, and less dependence on foreign oil.

For all of the rhetoric about the Iraq war and our president's quest for oil, that has been proven wrong, hasn't it? We have not benefited one bit. If Congress approved drilling in Alaska, there would be job creation, and those huge profits would only benefit our citizens. Well, maybe.
