Illinois fugitive arrested in LV
A man wanted on a first-degree murder charge in Illinois was arrested Thursday in Las Vegas.
The Criminal Apprehension Team, composed of investigators from Metro Police, the Henderson Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, arrested Kevin Leon Wilcox, 30, wanted by the Harvey Police Department in Cook County, Ill.
Wilcox was arrested at a home in the 4400 block of Halbert Avenue after investigators developed information that the man was possibly living in the area under an assumed identity, police said.
Authorities allege that in November 1997 Wilcox shot a man five times in front of several witnesses in a dispute over a theft of a wallet.
Three arrested in stolen car case
Three men were arrested Wednesday in connection with a stolen vehicle and auto theft ring.
Members of the Repeat Offenders Program arrested Chet Mylnek, Mike Nelson and Paul Depoe without incident. The three men were booked into the Clark County Detention Center, police said.
After conducting a three-week investigation, detectives recovered six stolen motorcycles and related equipment, with a value of $25,000, police said.
Detectives also seized a $52,000 custom pickup truck that was used in the heist, police said.
County planning official joins NLV
Jory Stewart, manager of Clark County advanced planning, has been hired to be North Las Vegas' director of planning and zoning, the city announced Thursday.
Stewart is scheduled to begin at the city on March 29. Her annual salary will be $112,500, a city statement said.
Stewart has worked for the county since July 1996. Before that she was a planning supervisor for North Las Vegas, and also worked as a principal planner for Las Vegas.
