Since a week ago Friday, when Mike O'Callaghan died, I've been attempting to write about my respect for him and my sadness at his death.
I had only been in Las Vegas a year and a half when I called him about a veterans' issue. He gave me an appointment and spent a good deal of time asking about my life. He made talking to him so easy that I didn't fully appreciate the honor or that he was already the voice for many and especially the downtrodden.
Over the years, whenever I called on him, he gave me the time to vent and his advice was always helpful. Many people will miss him, but those who are too complacent, busy or depressed, they should miss him the most.
