Letter: Common man is footing the bill

So now we're being prepared for our Social Security retirement to be ruined because of the huge deficit the current administration has created. This deficit was caused by reckless spending and tax rebates given to the rich. We have had no say in the war on, or the rebuilding of, Iraq.
How about repealing some of the massive tax rebates given to corporations and rich Americans in the name of reviving our economy? I haven't seen any new jobs, have you?
How about letting the president, secretary of state, secretary of defense and those congressmen who voted in favor of the war in Iraq give up some of their retirement and wages? How about these same people giving up some of the cost-of-living increases they enjoy even after they retire rather than eating away at the pittance received by the common man through Social Security?
How about the retirement funds of civil service personnel? Isn't it odd that their retirement funds aren't required to help solve this problem?
One has to wonder why the common man must always foot the bill. Why shouldn't the retiring elected officials and civil servants help foot this bill? Aren't they Americans too? Didn't these same elected officials vote in favor of the very legislation that is causing this deficit to grow daily?
Not one dime should come from Social Security. Let the president and the members of Congress who voted us into this mess pay from their retirements.
