Coroner’s inquest probes shooting
Friday, March 12, 2004 | 9:16 a.m.
A Clark County coroner's inquest jury will determine today whether a Metro Police officer's actions were justified, excusable or criminal in a fatal shooting of a man who allegedly lunged at him with a knife in January.
Officer Noe Larios fired at least one shot at 33-year-old Michael Carlucci in the parking lot of the Sugartree Apartments just south of Desert Inn Road and Swenson Street.
Police said Larios, 27, was patrolling in Las Vegas about 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 30 when he spotted Carlucci involved in some "suspicious activity" and stopped to question him.
Carlucci allegedly walked away from Larios, went to his car, pulled out a military-type combat knife and charged at the officer, police said.
Larios fired several shots at Carlucci. He was taken to University Medical Center where he died.
There have been five officer-involved shootings this year.
