Letter: Freedoms are being taken away
Monday, March 8, 2004 | 9:02 a.m.
Isn't it wonderful! The director of the FCC, Michael Powell, son of the Republican Secretary of State Colin Powell, has removed some of the silly "shock jock" tee-hee grade-school level radio shows on the air for many years. Even though all any intelligent American had to do was to yawn and turn the dial.
Never mind that the FCC encourages the right-wing Fox television and radio stations to broadcast their conservative nonsensical propaganda 24 hours a day, so harmful to the naive and uninformed among us.
And goody! Now all "traditional" marriages are safe and secure, too, since President Bush has proposed an amendment to our Constitution that would ban same-sex marriages. Even though those of us in "traditional marriages" are too busy with our lives to snoop into others relationships.
Isn't it fantastic to have these right-wing neo-cons "protecting" us from such imminent dangers rather than permitting Americans personal choices the way we used to do? Were the "good old days" really only a little over three years ago?
Now, how about proposing an amendment banning pre-emptive "all about oil and personal revenge" invasions of countries having nothing to do with Sept. 11, causing the maiming and loss of lives of our courageous troops and countless innocent civilians?
