This is one of those times for me and, I'm certain, thousands of others in Nevada.
Editorial: Nevadans will miss a great man
In Friday's Las Vegas Sun the story on Mike O'Callaghan's death carried a headline that succinctly summed up his importance and contribution to Nevada: "A giant dies." O'Callaghan, a Korean War hero and popular two-term governor, was one of the most powerful and influential individuals this state has ever seen.
Letter: Drought not just a problem for our state
Why are we in Southern Nevada restricted in our water use when Californians keep getting Lake Mead water to irrigate their lawns and to keep their BMWs and SUVs clean to drive on the freeways? Plus keeping the Salton Sea alive!

O'Callaghan made that trip both memorable and enjoyable.

Where I Stand -- Brian Greenspun: A man of the people
I am trying to write this while I am in the same kind of shock I felt when my father passed away 15 years ago and that all families experience when a loved one dies. All kinds of conflicting emotions -- all of them sad -- and hundreds of stories -- all of them incredible -- keep fighting for dominance in a brain barely capable of comprehending life without Mike.
