Author Nasser will speak on Holocaust

Author Stephen Nasser will speak at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive.

Nasser will pick up where Anne Frank left off in her "Diary of Anne Frank" and will share his secret, an account of the Holocaust and how a brother's love can encourage the willpower to see a better tomorrow.

The program is free and open to the public.

Candlelighters benefit set at Four Seasons

Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer of Southern Nevada will be honoring Robert Wengel and childhood cancer survivors Kyndel Gregory and Ryan Gadberry Saturday night at the Four Seasons.

The black-tie event will begin with a silent auction at 6 p.m. and will include a dinner, a live auction, dancing and entertainment.

Candlelighters is a nonprofit organization that provides support services to families with children with cancer. The organization exists to help families cope with all of the issues parents and children face when there is a cancer diagnosis and to maintain and improve the quality of life for the diagnosed child and for the whole family.

Tickets are $200.

Peace Corps members will speak to kids

The Southern Nevada Peace Corps Association is hosting a community service event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Buena Vista Springs Community Center, 2417 Morton Ave., North Las Vegas.

Seven former volunteers will speak and hold interactive information stations for the children of the center, with activities based on the traditions of the countries they served in.

Games, stories and puzzles activities from Bolivia, Ecuador, Democratic Republic of Congo, Russia and Bulgaria will be featured.

Public officials from North Las Vegas and Clark County as well as Gov. Kenny Guinn, will be speaking about their own experience in public service as elected officials in Nevada. Call 798-8568.

SCORE volunteers to give business tips

The Southern Nevada Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives will present the seminar "How to Really Start Your Own Business" at 9 a.m. Thursday at the City Centre building, 400 S. Fourth St., Suite 250A.

SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, the business plan and a check list for licensing, permits and other requirements. Call 388-6104.
